This anthology features Phebe’s darkest poem, Pilot’s Story; a reflection of stories she heard as a child about her Uncle Orear Watson’s capture and escape from a German POW Camp during WWII. The first paragraph of the poem is fictitious. Since everyone had passed away, Phebe had no way of knowing how Uncle O got picked up to leave for military service. The rest that follows is from stories she heard.
This Beyond the Hill anthology was created to explore and record the effects of modern warfare on combatants, civilians, and spectators. Poets from around the world have offered their very different interpretations of war.
This anthology is the 2017 Lost Tower Publications charity book with 10% of net profits going to veteran’s charities.
